What is a Circuit Diagram?
So before moving to making actual circuit it is better that we know what circuit diagram is. So in this very first post we will discuss the following topics.

What is a Circuit Diagram?
A circuit diagram is a visual representation of an electrical circuit using either basic images, parts or industry standard symbols. There are two types of circuit diagram. One is pictorial and other is the schematic based. Pictorial is excellent for beginners to understand the circuit whom are not that familiar with the standard symbols and well schematic is for guys that do understand such symbols. The pictorial diagrams are used for non technical or less technical audience. Given below is an image taken from Wikipedia clearly showing the difference between the pictorial representation and schematic representation.
In Fig. 1 top image shows the pictorial representation of circuit diagram and the bottom one shows the schematic representation of circuit diagram.
Common Symbol used in Circuit Diagram

In Fig. 2 one can see the most common and the basic symbols used in Schematic Diagrams. As you can see the most common of the symbols include resistor, capacitor, inductor, gates and power sources.
Tools to use to create a Circuit Diagram
There are many free open source and online tools available for creating schematics. I will be primarily be using one of the following tools. Eagle, ExpressPCB and Fritzing. One can download these tools from there respective website. I will also provide a small post or tutorial of sort explaining these tools and how to use these tools to create your first circuit diagram.
Creating a first circuit diagram
So what I have created here is a very simple circuit diagram consisting of a source, a LED, a switch and a Resistor. So what this will do is when you turn on the switch the LED will glow and when you turn off the switch the LED will not glow it is as simple as that.
So I have created this first circuit diagram containing a battery, a switch, a LED and a resistor. So how do we create a circuit diagram? In simple terms select the items you want in your circuit diagram and connect it in a close loop with a power source and voila!! you circuit diagram is complete it is that simple. I will give a detail tutorial in next post but till then you can give it a try.
In the next post I will give a small introduction to fritzing and then we will move forward to creating a pictorial schematic diagram and I will introduce bread board and how to make connection on bread board.
